Seems that the favourite question to any financial institutions nowadays are on their exposure to 1MDB and whether it will pose any systemic risk?

However, no answer from 1MDB itself? It's confidential...

'Janji Ditepati' dan 'BR1M'

Slogan sambutan merdeka tahun ini '55 Tahun Merdeka, Janji Ditepati' mengundang berbagai pertanyaan di fikiran saya:

• Adakah janji untuk hadir ke sesuatu majlis tepat pada waktunya sentiasa ditepati oleh pemimpin kita?  Berapa banyak masa yang dibazirkan di majlis-majlis berkaitan di mana para hadirin yang 'dijemput khas' untuk hadir dan seterusnya terpaksa menunggu kehadiran pemimpin yang datang lewat.
• Kenapakan di Malaysia berbagai acara melibatkan pemimpin sentiasa diadakan? Ada kalanya kos mengadakan majlis adalah lebih daripada kos program berkenaan. Contohnya, pemberian sumbangan BR1M adalah hanya RM500 satu keluarga, tetapi acara penyampaian oleh pemimpin melibatkan beribu hadirin, dengan kos khemahnya, liputan media dan sebagainya.
• BR1M melibatkan lebih RM2 billion sumbangan kepada lebih 4.7 juta keluarga (sumber di sini.  Saya juga pernah melihat papantanda besar berhubung perkara ini). Sekiranya purata satu keluarga mempunyai 3 orang anggota keluarga, ini bermakna 14.1 juta penduduk Malaysia adalah penerima BR1M (secara langsung atau tidak langsung), iaitu lebih kurang 50% keseluruhan rakyat Malaysia.
• Iklan berhubung BR1M memaparkan bahawa bantuan RM500 berkenaan cukup untuk semuanya - beli motor baru, beli baju sekolah anak-anak, beli kacamata baru, belanja perubatan dan sebagainya.  Padahal pada masa ini nilai RM500 tidaklah seberapa.

Sesungguhnya menjadi pemimpin adalah amanah Allah yang amat besar dan semestinya akan diperhalusi semasa di akhirat kelak.  Sedarlah bahawa dunia ini adalah pinjaman semata-mata dan akhirat adalah matlamat utama - pesanan terutamanya kepada diri yang serba kekurangan ini.

Ya Allah, saya mohon keampunanMu...

400 Pemimpin Masyarakat ditaja menunaikan Haji

Saya membaca ini di The Star di mana 400 pemimpin masyarakat berpeluang menunaikan fardhu haji pada tahun ini dengan penajaan bersama Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) dan Yayasan 1Malaysia. Sejumlah RM6 juta diperuntukan untuk mereka ini, atau RM15,000 seorang, bermakna dapat 'pocket money' lagi.

Tahniah kepada mereka kerana berpeluang untuk menunaikan Rukun Islam yang kelima ini dan di bawah tajaan pula.  Namun saya terfikir berhubung:
 - kriteria pemilihan mereka;
 - kuota 400 berkenaan bermakna 400 bakal haji yang menunggu tidak dapat menunaikan haji kali ini;
 - adakah mereka ini tidak pernah menyimpan sedikit demi sedikit di LTH bagi tujuan menunaikan haji sehinggakan peruntukan RM15,000 seorang disediakan untuk mereka? Seharusnya mungkin sebahagian sahaja yang ditaja, manakala yang lain ditanggung sendiri.  Bukankah mereka ini pemimpin masyarakat, yang sepatutnya memberikan contoh kepada masyarakat supaya mula menyimpan bagi tujuan menunaikan haji seawal mungkin?

Saya rasa mungkin 400 orang ini dan keluarga akan berterima kasih, manakala 4,000 orang yang lain dan keluarga (iaitu mereka yang tidak terpilih) akan merasa tidak berpuas hati.

Ya Allah, saya mohon keampunanMu...

I'm having a feeling that we're now living in the same era as when Pak Lah was our PM. MAS-AirAsia deal, unstability in the stock market, denial that Malaysia is not affected by international events, reduction in crime rate (although almost every new development in KL is 'gated development'), PEMANDU/TERAJU/UNIK/AIM/MRT CO vs. PRASARANA, etc. etc.

Maybe I'm just hungry as I'm fasting at the moment. What do you think?

First term MP's worried they might not get benefits!!??

Read this in The Star today.

It seems that 'a big section of the first-term Barisan MPs and assemblymen in the other states apparently do not want the general elections before April.' Do you want to know the reason why?

Here's why: 'This is because they have not reached their three-year term and that would mean they lose their gratuities and pensions if they lost or are not renominated to contest.'

Some of us (the normal ordinary rakyat) would have to work for a minimum of 15 years to get benefits (pension, etc.) unlike them - only 3 years??!!

I thought the first and main reason why they want to be MPs and assemblymen is because they want to serve the Rakyat. Rewards, benefits, gratuities should be secondary. The joy of 'serving the people' should be a benefit in itself...

I guess that's just a dream in this Bolehland...

Congratulations to Barisan Nasional for winning Hulu Selangor by-election

Congratulations to BN's P.Kamalanathan for winning the Hulu Selangor by-election with a 1,725 majority. According to The Star, this is a vote of confidence to our PM's leadership.

Let's hope that both P.Kamalanathan and Najib Razak continue to work hard and serve the rakyat to the best of their ability.

Malaysian Mega Sales?

I have the pleasure of watching YAB PM’s speech on the New Economic Model for Malaysia this morning on TV. Out of the eight Strategic Reform Initiatives, I particularly like ‘Re-energising the private sector to lead growth’. Based on this premise and ensuring a stronger public-private cooperation, a number of initiatives were announced:
1. ‘divestments of non-core and non competitive assets that operate in areas where new strategic shareholders have the potential to enhance the creation of value’, with Khazanah divesting its controlling 32% stake in Pos Malaysia;
2. ‘in order to promote higher levels of economic investment, expansion and growth, several parcels of land in Jalan Stonor, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Lidcol, Kuala Lumpur have been identified to be tendered out and developed by the private sector’;
3. ‘Government of Malaysia and the EPF will form a joint-venture to promote the development of 3,000 acres of land in Sungei Buloh into a new hub for the Klang Valley. This will lead to over RM5 billion of new investments being made that will have an immediate effect on domestic growth, with an enormous potential for the private sector to participate in prominently’; and
4. ‘We have begun a review of a number of companies under Minister of Finance Incorporated and other agencies, and I can inform you that we are considering privatization measures related to, Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad, CTRM Aero Composites Sdn Bhd, Nine Bio Sdn Bhd and Innobio Sdn Bhd with more under consideration.

It seems that a number of national core assets are being tendered out to ‘qualified bidders’ for the sake our children and grandchildren future. Or is there a need to replenish the diminishing Government coffers?

Malaysia 6th Prime Minister

Congratulations to Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak who was sworn in as Malaysia's 6th Prime Minister this morning. I wish him all the best and may he has the strength and wisdom to take Malaysia to greater heights.

And, finally I am able to remove 'Berundurlah' poster on the top right hand side of this blog. I would also like to wish Pak Lah all the best and may he be able to 'sleep' soundly during his retirement.

Choose wisely

Dear UMNO delegates, please choose your new leaders wisely as you are carrying the responsibility given by members of your Bahagian!

Update 30/03/2009: I would say that UMNO delegates have made acceptable choices for most of the party top leaders, except a few of the Supreme Council members. And sad to note that 304 UMNO Youth delegates still voted for the new UMNO Youth chief although UMNO Discliplinary Board found him guilty under 'Perkara 10.1 Perlembagaan UMNO'.

The call for our elected representatives to serve their constituents to the best of their ability, i.e. by resigning (here & here) has finally reached the ears of those ‘responsible’ MPs and ADUNs (here & here). My hope is that more of our ‘beloved’ and ‘respected’ YBs will follow suit.

Tax to all Malaysians!

It seems that we have been paying tax to Government – all of us (at least those who purchase fuel for our transportation needs) since a few weeks back. Instead of receiving subsidy (if I’m not mistaken, a 30 cents subsidy was mentioned as the minimum that the Government will provide), we are now paying tax to Government as the 'actual' price of fuel is below the price at the pumps. Effectively, we have been ‘subsidising’ the government. The RM625 subsidy is now just ‘chicken feed’ to Government as they must have collected quite a handsome amount by now.

I hope our Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs can provide us a ‘true’ picture about this – and ‘effectively’ play his part in taking care of ‘consumer affairs’…

Very, very soon I can finally remove the poster (thanks to Sheikh Kickdefella) on the top right hand corner of this blog... Can't wait for that to happen.

Hope that someone can tell me why the piece was written by 'Kali' in the NSTP today (10 Oct 2008). In one go, he insulted almost everyone in UMNO - the piece on 'KORO' written by Datuk AKJ comes to mind. It pointed out that nobody dares to do anything since Dr M (now Tun) resigned... iskh iskh iskh. That includes all members of 'EMP''TY' UMNO, two of whom will soon be our PM and DPM.

What can we look forward to, in the era after Pak 'Flip Flop' Lah? Maybe an upgrade to 'Crocs' instead. I'm betting that things would be same, only with different players. Hmmmm, can I be one of the 'advisers'?

Switching Portfolios OR Bigger Commission?

Our DPM is now Finance Minister while PM is Defence Minister.

After the recent budget speech, where improvement to public transportation was one of the key agenda – together with dishing out transportation-related contracts (buses, new EMU, etc.), the focus now shifted to Defence Ministry – could it be that ‘ada kontrak besaq’ nak keluar ke?

Just wondering…

Serving the Constituents… Just resign!

I would like to make a call to all our elected Member of Parliaments! If you really want to serve your constituents to the best of your ability – just RESIGN! Follow the footsteps of ex-YB Wan Azizah. By resigning, she has brought so many improvements & MONEY to Permatang Pauh. All mosques and ‘suraus’ will have access to funds that they can only dream of before - which might be extended to all places of worship. The festive atmosphere in Permatang Pauh is better than all the promos being carried out in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year – bringing actual business to small traders and warung owners Permatang Pauh.

All Malaysians have also benefitted – petrol price is now RM2.55!

However, please schedule your resignations accordingly – so that we will have two by-elections every month.

Then, it doesn’t matter if you want to re-contest – just make a pact with another MP to switch ‘kawasan’. If you do win, you can repeat this over and over again. Or if you lose, you still have your MP’s pension to live on.

Rather than acting like clowns in Parliament, I think the best thing that all Member of Parliaments can do at the moment is… RESIGN!!!

Let's all vote for independent candidates next GE

I'm so sick with the overall situation in Malaysia at the moment - economically & politically.

Politicians will always be politicians. The Y(kurang)B from Perak should have said 'If you see a politician and a snake, let the snake go but %#@... (please fill in whatever you like here) the politician!' There so much at stake for the Rakyat, but focus is more on 'drama' & 'wayang'. When can all these elected politicians (government & opposition alike) start to think and work seriously to resolve all the issues facing the Rakyat - higher cost of living, better education for all, etc. Even those Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor is beginning to look and act like ole' Barisan Nasinal government. Maybe Y(kini bukan MB)B Khir Toyo should perform his 'broom' trick...

What can we do? I propose that for the next GE, we all should just vote for independent candidates - but not the Y(kuat melompat)B from Pasir Mas. But, wait - who will become the big boss should we all vote for independent candidates? These independent candidates can then vote among themselves on who will become the big boss, deputy big boss and so on.

Anyone with me on this?
