It seems that we have been paying tax to Government – all of us (at least those who purchase fuel for our transportation needs) since a few weeks back. Instead of receiving subsidy (if I’m not mistaken, a 30 cents subsidy was mentioned as the minimum that the Government will provide), we are now paying tax to Government as the 'actual' price of fuel is below the price at the pumps. Effectively, we have been ‘subsidising’ the government. The RM625 subsidy is now just ‘chicken feed’ to Government as they must have collected quite a handsome amount by now.
I hope our Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs can provide us a ‘true’ picture about this – and ‘effectively’ play his part in taking care of ‘consumer affairs’…
